OUR CHILDREN
RESIDENT CHILDREN
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress... (Jam 1:27)
In April 2006 Claudia took in the first 3 street children into her home, and she has not stopped since. Some have run away, but many have grown up to be wonderful men and women of God. These are the children currently living on our base:
YACOUBA
Birthday: 28 May 2002
Ethnicity: Songhray
Moved in: 2017
Sponsor: yes
Yacouba (birth name Allaye) was born in Sévaré. Allaye completed first grade before his Dad sent him to a Marabout in Mopti. He spent five years with the Marabout where he had to beg, memorize the Coran and was beaten. After 5 years he finally ran away and returned home. He ended up staying 3 years at home, not going to school, not working, not doing anything.
After three years his Dad finally took him back to the Marabout. Yacouba ran away the very next day and soon ran into another kid he knew who had already run away from his Marabout. They decided to go to Bamako together, taking the bus. Arriving in Bamako they were beging at the main mosque and other places downtown.
After 4-5 months they met Bouba on the street who told them about our center. On May 28, 2017, they both showed up for the first time and started sleeping in our center, while begging at the nearby market during the day. On July 6th we took them both into our home.
During the following years they ran away together several times. The last time, Yacouba returned, but not little Hama who remained on the street. Yacouba is developing wonderfully and is now a good student in 4th grade.
MOUSSA

Ethnicity: Fulani
Moved in: 2016
Sponsor: yes
Moussa was born in Diarradougou in Burkina Faso in 2004. At 3 years old he was sent to a Marabout in Bobo Dioulasso where he spent the next five years. He then decided to run away because of the beatings and went to Sikasso where he spent the next five months making bricks and earning money. However, the Marabout had a relative there who recognized Moussa and told him about his whereabouts. The Marabout then informed Moussa’s father who came to Sikasso to get his son and take him back to the Marabout. Moussa stayed another two years with the Marabout who dod not beat him during that time.
Then one day the Marabout’s wife sent him out to go get water. When he didn’t do it, the Marabout beat him up for it, and so he ran away again, with one other kid. They decided to go to Bamako. On the way there they met another street kid (Tidiane) in Bougouni who told them about us. Together the three of them made their way to Bamako and straight to our center. Moussa stayed, while his friend continued on his journey to another town.
In November 2015, he first came to our center and started cleaning in a pharmacy during the day while spending the nights with us. In the summer of 2016 he started to spend every night at our center, got noticed, and finally became a part of our family.
Moussa attends 5th grade and is a top student.
